Frogmore Mausoleum 1868
Description
Depicts Prince Albert and Queen Victoria in Anglo-Saxon dress. Albert is seen in a belted tunic with the initials "V" and "A' carved into it and a cloak, he is also shown pointing upward with his right arm raised. Victoria is shown next to him in a long dress and a cloak that is embroidered with crowns and a sequence of the national symbols of Britain. She has her right hand resting on Albert's left shoulder and is clenching his left hand with her left. Victoria is seen looking up towards Albert. The platform the statue is based on is a Hexagonal pedestal made of African marble from Rome and it bears the inscription ‘Allured to brighter worlds, and led the way’ from the poem ‘The Deserted Village’ by Oliver Goldsmith (1730-1774).
